Tour Highlights
Experience Sri Lankan authentic Local Cooking with a market visit. Get hands-on experience by working together to prepare authentic Sri Lankan dishes. Enjoy chopping, grinding and mixing Sri Lankan spices in authentic recipes while identifying medicinal qualities of Sri Lankan ingredients. You can expect the cooking lesson to last about 1-2 hours before you sit down and enjoy the delicious meal you prepared yourself with your host family.
Tour Itinerary
Check in to your room in the thoughtfully decorated villa after refreshing welcome by your host. Get ready for the unique market experience. This visit will give you an experience of what Sri Lankan people will typically do before cooking. The tour starts by exploring local market where you will get to know how to select world-renowned Sri Lankan spices and ingredients by their smell, feel and appearance. In the traditional market, you will have a great opportunity of seeing and experiencing the real Sri Lankan culture and lifestyle.
Then return to your beautiful villa for the cooking class to begin. Start preparing your meal, first by learning the traditional Sri Lankan way of cutting, chopping, and grinding. Preparation is one of the most interesting and important aspects of Sri Lankan cooking, with two types of spice preparation, chop on a wooden chopping block or ground in a stone mortar before being cooked in a variety of ways. All prep work and cooking are hands-on experiences, performed entirely by you. Now it’s time to start real cooking as you make an array of delicious Sri Lankan dishes and pick up plenty of tips and techniques from your instructor, an experienced local chef. On completion of the class, you can enjoy your Sri Lankan feast of lunch/ dinner!
